Our Process

  • 1 - Base Coat

    The first stage involves laying down a base coat. The base coat carries out two primary functions. Firstly, it creates a foundation colour which bleeds through the film. The second purpose of the base coat is to prepare the product for adhesion of the water transfer film
  • 2 - Water Transfer

    The second stage in the process is the application of the water transfer film. It is at this stage that the design layer is applied to the 3 dimensional product. To the untrained eye this stage may look very easy, however there are a number of variables affecting successful application. These include but are not limited to; the angle of immersion, the water temperature, the amount of activator used as well as the atmospheric humidity and pressure. As experts in hydrographics we are well versed in all of the factors that influence a successful water transfer film application. This is why we are able to ensure our clients receive consistent replication of their surface decoration designs month upon month, year after year.
  • 3 - Clear Coat

    The penultimate stage of our process involves applying a clear coat, also commonly referred to as a lacquer. This stage provides a layer of protection to both the water transfer design and the substrate beneath. It is also at this stage where we can alter the surface light reflection by applying either a matt, gloss or semi gloss finish.
  • 4 - Polish

    The final stage involves adding the final touches to the newly decorated substrate to ensure the product is ready for installation upon delivery. Depending on the finish desired this will vary drastically. For our clients seeking a high gloss finish, this will consist of a methodical polishing procedure which leaves the substrate surface gleaming.
